Guo Xiaoru

Guo Xiaoru, born on April 30, 2009, in Taiwan. In her family background, her mother is Zeng Xinying, the second wife of Terry Gou (Guo Taiming). She grew up with a maternal younger brother, Guo Shoushan (born 2010), and a younger sister, Guo Xia'ai (born 2014). She also has half-siblings on her father's side, Guo Shouzhen and Guo Xiaoling.

As for her name, the characters “Guo” and “Xiao” follow the family tradition; the choice of the character “Ru” is, according to outside speculation, intended to commemorate Terry Gou’s late former wife, Lin Shuru. In public, Terry Gou has made no explicit statement about this and only nodded in acknowledgement.

For her one-month celebration, on May 30, 2009, the Gou couple did not hold a traditional banquet. Instead they ordered cakes and traditional oil rice (youfan) from the Xihan’er Bakery to share with relatives and friends. They also made donations to the Xihan’er Foundation and other charities. The one-month gift boxes included thank-you cards signed by the couple to express their gratitude to friends and family.

Regarding upbringing and education, in June 2009 Terry Gou publicly stated that he planned to send Guo Xiaoru to be fostered with a family in southern Taiwan after her 100th day. The aim was to avoid overprotecting his children and to cultivate their independence, invoking the proverb “wealth does not last beyond three generations” to emphasize the point. This also reflects the family’s considerations about how the children should be raised.

Publicly available information to date shows that Guo Xiaoru, as one of Terry Gou’s children, was raised in a family that emphasizes education and fostering independence. Her family relationships are relatively complex and involve multiple marriages and children from different relationships.
