Introduction

Zhang Qi, a native of Yongcheng County in Henan, lived during the Ming Dynasty. His specific birth and death dates are unknown. His father was Zhang Congyi, posthumously titled Marquis of Pengcheng; his grandfather was Zhang Jinghui, also posthumously titled Marquis of Pengcheng; and his grandmother was Lady Liu, who was later posthumously honored as the Marquis of Pengcheng's wife. His mother, Lady Zhu, was also posthumously honored as the Marquis of Pengcheng's wife. His wife was Lady Tong, daughter of Tong Shan, a general appointed as a martial officer under the Yuan Dynasty.

Zhang Qi's daughter became the Empress of Emperor Renzong of Ming — Empress Chengxiao Zhao. In the 20th year of the Hongwu reign (1387), she married Zhu Gaochi, the eldest son of Zhu Di. Zhang Qi once served as deputy commander of the military and participated in Zhu Di's Jingnan Campaign. After the victory, he was granted the title of Marquis of Pengcheng, with the posthumous title Gongjing, and was later promoted to Marquis of Pengcheng.

During Zhu Di’s Jingnan Campaign, Zhang Qi was appointed Commander of the Capital Patrol Guards, but he died soon afterward. His children included Zhang Chang, Zhang Xu, and Zhang Sheng. Additionally, his daughter was also posthumously honored as an empress.
