Introduction
James Archibald Wolfe Murray was born on 25 April 1936 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the son of Major Malcolm Victor Alexander Wolfe Murray and Lady Grizel Mary Boyle. Wolfe Murray received his education at Eton College and later attended Worcester College, Oxford.
During his time at Oxford University, he participated in first-class cricket, making three appearances in 1957. His matches included games against Worcestershire, the Free Foresters, and Leicestershire. In these matches, he scored a total of 43 runs, with a highest score of 25. As a right-arm fast-medium bowler, he took three wickets.
In June 1968, Wolfe Murray married Lady Diana Lucy Douglas-Home, four months prior to her father, Alec Douglas-Home, becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The couple had three children before their divorce in 1976. In 1978, he remarried to Amanda Felicity Street.
He passed away at the Borders General Hospital in Melrose on 5 June 2011. Wolfe Murray's great-grandfather was James Wolfe Murray, a British Army officer.
