Introduction
Princess Rui'an (16th–17th century), whose given name was Zhu Yaoyuan, was a princess of the Ming Dynasty. She was the fifth daughter of Ming Emperor Muzong and the younger maternal-half sister of Emperor Shenzong. Her mother was Concubine Li. The princess married Wan Wei in the 13th year of the Wanli reign (1585). During the Tianqi era, she was posthumously bestowed the title of Princess Dowager of Rui'an. Wan Wei served as Grand Tutor and oversaw the Secretariat Office. After Beijing fell, Wan Wei and his son Wan Zhangzuo perished in the army of Li Zicheng. The princess’s daughter-in-law, Lady Li, and her grandson, Wan Hongzuo, also committed suicide by throwing themselves into a well.
