Rong Jifu was a well-known socialite of the Republican era, born into the prestigious Rong family of Wuxi. The family was celebrated as the 'Flour Kings' and 'Textile Kings' for their dominance in China’s flour and textile industries, making them one of the leading elite families in old Shanghai. With such a powerful background, Rong Jifu’s marriage was deeply influenced by the traditional notions of family arrangement and social status.
Renowned for her beauty and reputation in her youth, Rong Jifu was first married, under family arrangement, to Hua Bozhong, the eldest son of Hua Yizhi, the 'Honey King.' However, due to incompatibility, the couple later divorced in Hong Kong.
Afterward, Rong Jifu moved alone to the United States, where she married a Chinese entrepreneur known as the 'Tofu King.' Unfortunately, this marriage was also short-lived and ended unhappily.
Later, Rong Jifu married Wei Daoming, a prominent statesman who had served as the first Chairman of the Taiwan Provincial Government and as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China. Introduced to him after the passing of his first wife, Zheng Yuxiu, Rong Jifu’s union with Wei attracted considerable public attention, reflecting both her influential family background and her personal charm.
