Introduction

Zhu Mengwan (朱孟烷; 1382–1439) was an imperial prince during the Ming dynasty, holding the title of the 2nd Prince of Chu (楚王). He was the third son of Zhu Zhen, Prince Zhao. Zhu Mengwan inherited the title of Prince of Chu in 1424 and held it until his death in 1439. His son, Zhu Jini, succeeded him as the Prince of Chu in 1440.

Family and Marriage

Zhu Mengwan's primary consort was Princess consort of Chu from the Deng clan (楚王妃 鄧氏), who died in 1442. She was the daughter of Deng Yu, who was the second son of Deng Ming, the Prince Wushun of Ninghe (寧河武順王 鄧愈).

He also had a lady of the Zhu clan (诸氏) as a consort.

Children

Zhu Mengwan had at least four children who survived to adulthood:

1. Zhu Jini (朱季堄; 1413–1443), his eldest son, became Prince Xian of Chu (楚憲王).

2. Zhu Jichu (朱季埱; 1423–1462), his second son, held the title of Prince Kang of Chu (楚康王).

3. Zhu Jili (朱季塛; 1426–1462), his third son, was known as Prince Gongding of Dong'an (東安恭定王).

4. Zhu Jiruan (朱季堧), his fourth son, was titled Prince Daoxi of Daye (大冶悼僖王).

His daughter Princess Xinhua (新化郡主) was married to Liu Xian (劉獻).

A second daughter was princess Xiangxiang (湘乡郡主), who married Wang Qian (王谦). The second and third daughters' names are not recorded.
