Introduction
Takayuki Kukki (Kuki Takaharu, born in Enkyō 4 [1747] – July 30, Bunsei 4 [August 27, 1821]) was the 9th lord of the Mita Domain in Settsu Province and the 21st head of the Kukki family. During his lifetime, he served in roles such as inheriting family leadership and acting as a guardian after retirement.
Kuki Takayuki was born in Mita. His place of birth is said to be in Settsu Province, and his childhood name was Kōnosuke. His father was Kuki Ryūyū, who was the 8th lord of the domain.
On November 14, 1785 (Taeimyo 5), following the retirement of his father Ryūyū, Takayuki inherited the position of 9th lord. He later ceded the family headship to his eldest son, Kuki Takakuni, on February 6, 1798 (Kansei 10). Even after transferring the family estate, Takayuki continued to act as a guardian and held actual authority over family affairs.
In terms of court ranks, he was awarded the Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade, and held the official titles of Nagato-no-Kami and Kaga-no-Kami. These titles reflected his status and official roles.
His formal wife was the daughter of Shimazu Hisakata, and his children included his eldest son, Kuki Takakuni, as well as a daughter who became the wife of Kobori Kuniaki.
He died in Edo on July 30, 1821 (Bunsei 4) at the age of 75. After his death, his posthumous name was Kōgetsu-in and Jōrin-in.
With this background, Takayuki Kukki played a role as a feudal lord during the Edo period, managing the family estate and regional governance.
