Liu Chunqing

Liu Chunqing, born in Taiwan, is a business professional. He comes from a commercial family, is about 1.80 meters tall with a burly build, and wears shoulder-length curly hair, giving him a somewhat artistic air. Although his appearance suggests an artist, Liu primarily works in business and currently runs restaurants in Beijing.

In his relationship with Yang Liping, Liu is a US-national Taiwanese. The two were married in 1995. At that time Liu was doing business in the United States and met Yang at a friends’ gathering in Beijing. From their first meeting he showed strong interest in Yang and subsequently pursued her. Yang had previously had a short marriage; after that failed marriage she was gradually moved by Liu’s persistence and sincerity, and the two married in 1995.

After marriage, Liu and Yang lived separately in different places but often had opportunities to be together. When Yang was hospitalized due to illness, Liu flew from Beijing to Chongqing to care for her, showing attentive concern. They formed a family and cared for each other in daily life. Yang has publicly said that their family life was very happy.

Professionally, Liu ran a venue in Beijing that combined dining, lodging, and entertainment, and he actively supported Yang’s dance career. In 2002, when Yang considered having a child, she was unable to conceive for health reasons, so she gave up the plan to have children and ultimately ended the seven-year marriage with Liu; Liu then returned to Taiwan.

In 2003, after Yang retired from the Central Nationalities Song and Dance Ensemble, she remained in contact with Liu. During that period Liu repeatedly supported Yang’s works, including investing in the film Sun Island and providing financial assistance during the production of large-stage projects such as Yunnan Impressions. Although their marriage ended, Liu continued to play an important role in supporting Yang’s career.

In terms of family relationships, Yang later found a maternal feeling in her sister’s daughter, Caiqi. From a young age Caiqi traveled with Yang and received care and support from family members. At key moments in Yang’s career development, Liu quietly assisted, demonstrating his supportive attitude toward both Yang’s profession and family life.
