Introduction
Colonel Lord Evelyn James Stuart was born on 7 May 1773 and died on 16 August 1842. He was a British military officer and Member of Parliament associated with the Tory party.
Family Background:
He was the second son of John Stuart, 1st Marquess of Bute, and Charlotte Jane Windsor, the Honourable daughter of Herbert Windsor, 2nd Viscount Windsor. His grandfather was John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, who served as Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Following Lord William Stuart's death, Evelyn Stuart was re-elected to the seat on 7 November 1814. Stuart’s military service included commissions in several regiments. Initially, he was commissioned into the 7th Foot, later transferring to an Independent Company as a Lieutenant in 1791. He purchased a Captaincy in the 1st Foot Guards and, in 1797, purchased a Major's rank in the 66th Foot. Subsequently, he acquired the Lieutenant-Colonelcy of the 21st Foot in the same year. In 1802, he transferred to the 22nd Foot, and in 1805, he received a brevet promotion to Colonel. Throughout his military service, he held ranks in multiple regiments, reflecting a career of active military engagement and progression.
