Introduction

Lee Seung-gi, born November 1, 1952, in Seoul, South Korea, is a multi-disciplinary entertainer who works as a singer, actor, and variety show host. He was born on January 13, 1987, and during his childhood performed well academically, serving twice as student council president and acting as the lead singer of his school band. His early musical education attracted the attention of the then-famous singer Lee Sun-hee, and in his first year of high school he became Lee Sun-hee’s only trainee, beginning a two-year period of preparation for an entertainment career.

Lee Seung-gi officially debuted in June 2004 with his first full album, The Moth’s Dream, and won both KBS and SBS Best New Artist awards with the album’s title track “Because You’re My Woman.” His singing style gradually gained wide recognition, and in 2014 that song was ranked among the popular songs of the past decade.

In 2006 Lee released his second album, Crazy For You; its lead single “Words Hard to Say” won an award at the SBS Gayo Daejeon. He continued to build his musical achievements with subsequent albums and cover records, demonstrating strong vocal skill and emotional expressiveness.

As an actor, Lee Seung-gi successfully transitioned to television and film. His representative works include the 2009 drama Brilliant Legacy, in which he played the wealthy second-generation character Xianyu Huan; the series reached a peak rating of 47.1% and became that year’s ratings champion. That same year, the drama The Rumored Seven Princesses, in which he also starred, averaged over 40% in viewership. In 2012 he starred in the drama The King 2 Hearts, which premiered with ratings above 15%, further establishing his acting reputation.

In variety television, Lee joined KBS’s Two Days & One Night in 2007 as a regular cast member; the show’s ratings consistently exceeded 30%, peaking at 43.3%. He also hosted SBS’s Strong Heart and won the SBS Entertainment Awards’ Popularity Award in 2011. He has received multiple awards and has shown outstanding performance across variety, acting, and singing.

Academically, Lee Seung-gi entered Dongguk University’s Department of International Trade in 2005 and graduated with excellent grades in 2009. He later pursued graduate studies and earned a master’s degree in Cultural Contents.

In his personal life, Lee completed his military service in 2016 at the Nonsan training center in Chungcheongnam-do; during service he was promoted to squad leader and received several commendations for his military performance, and he was officially discharged in 2017. Regarding his relationships, he publicly dated Im Yoon-ah (Yoona) before they broke up in 2015. He began a relationship with actress Lee Da-in in 2021, married her in 2023, and welcomed a daughter in 2024.

Lee Seung-gi has also been active in social and charitable work, serving as a promotional ambassador on multiple occasions and participating in charity fundraising and volunteer activities. His entertainment career and social contributions have earned him considerable recognition and a strong reputation in South Korea and across Asia.
