Mianhui was born on 20 October 1764. He was the eldest son of Yongcheng, a prince of the Qing dynasty, and Lady Wanyan. His father was later promoted to the position of secondary princess consort. Mianhui was the only surviving male child of Yongcheng, making him the sole heir to the Prince Lü peerage.

In 1775, Mianhui attended the funeral of Empress Xiaoyichun. He inherited his princely title in 1777, being granted the rank of prince of the third rank. In 1779, he was awarded a yellow saddle, along with Mian'en, as recognition for excelling in mount archery and horse riding, an honor that broke with the tradition of reserving purple and red saddles for imperial clansmen.
