Introduction
James Dalton Murray was a British diplomat born in 1911 and died in 1984. He served as Head of the South-East Asia Department at the Foreign Office from 1950 to 1952, Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan from 1952 to 1955, Head of the United Nations Department at the Foreign Office from 1956 to 1959, and as a Counsellor at the Embassy in Portugal from 1959 to 1961. He was married to Meriall Rose Eden, born in 1927, who is the daughter of Sir Timothy Calvert Eden, 6th/8th Baronet, and Sybil Frances Grey, and the granddaughter of Anthony Eden.
