He was born on the 19th day of the ninth month in the 22nd year of Hongwu (October 19, 1389). In the ninth month of the 35th year of Hongwu (September 30, 1402), he was granted the title of Prince and held his crowning ceremony in October of the same year. During the Yongle era, Zhu Shangju made multiple trips to Nanjing to pay respects to Emperor Ming Chengzu, notably in the fifth (1407), sixth (1408), and fifteenth (1417) years of Yongle, each time accompanied by his younger brother, Prince Yongshou Zhu Shanghu.
