Liu Xiaozong, born in 1976 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is the husband of Huawei Vice Chairwoman Meng Wanzhou.
He studied at Chengdu No. 7 High School and later attended the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. After graduation, he pursued further studies in the United States and earned his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1996.
After graduation, Liu joined Huawei through corporate recruitment, starting as a junior salesperson and later becoming a project manager. Around 2001, he was sent to Mexico to expand the overseas market. After a decade at Huawei, he rose to the position of CEO of a Huawei subsidiary.
In 2006, Liu left Huawei to pursue entrepreneurship, founding Shenzhen Yishengsheng Trading Co., focusing on wine trade. He later expanded into education and investment, co-founding and investing in Chongqing Depu Foreign Language School in 2013, which officially opened in 2015. He also held positions such as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the school and Chairman of Qingfu Investment.
In his personal life, Liu married Meng Wanzhou in 2007, and together they have a daughter. The couple’s life and activities span Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Vancouver, Canada. In 2018, following Meng Wanzhou’s arrest in Canada, Liu sold two luxury properties in Vancouver to pay for her bail.
On September 25, 2021, Liu welcomed Meng Wanzhou back at Shenzhen Airport with roses, showing his public support. On April 12, 2025, he attended the 120th anniversary celebration of Chengdu No. 7 High School as an alumnus alongside his wife.
