Introduction
Barbara Anne Eisenhower was born on May 30, 1949, in West Point, New York. She was the daughter of John Eisenhower, a United States military historian and diplomat, and Barbara Jean (née Thompson) Eisenhower. Her grandfather was Dwight D. Eisenhower, who served as the 34th President of the United States.
Eisenhower was presented at the International Debutante Ball held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City in 1967. She pursued a career as an interior designer and was based in New York City.
Her first marriage was to Fernando Echavarría-Uribe, an insurance executive from Bogotá, Colombia. The couple married in November 1968 after meeting during Eisenhower’s vacation in South America in 1966. They had a daughter, Adriana Echavarría, born on May 29, 1969, six months after the death of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Adriana became a photographer and was married for a time to Eduardo Mendoza de la Torre, a former vice minister of justice in Colombia and a vice president of Avianca airlines. Mendoza de la Torre was notable for having testified against Pablo Escobar in relation to drug trafficking charges.
In the 1980s, Eisenhower married Wolfgang Flöttl, a hedge-fund manager. Both Eisenhower and Flöttl were active participants in the New York charity circuit. Eisenhower filed for divorce from Flöttl in 2018.
In 2010, she sold a historic mansion in Southampton named Claverack for $35 million.
At the time of her death, she was residing in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Barbara Eisenhower died on July 30, 2022, in New York at the age of 73.
