Introduction
Rose Kennedy Schlossberg (born June 25, 1988) is an American artist and filmmaker known for her work in video installations and web series. She is the daughter of Edwin Schlossberg, a designer and artist, and Caroline Kennedy, an attorney and diplomat. She is the granddaughter of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the former First Lady.
Early Life and Education:
Rose Kennedy Schlossberg was born at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Her father, Edwin Schlossberg, has an Orthodox Jewish background of Ashkenazi descent from Ukraine. Her mother, Caroline Kennedy, is of Irish, French, Scottish, and English descent and was raised Catholic. The family also incorporated elements of Hanukkah during holidays, reflecting a multicultural upbringing. She has two younger siblings, Tatiana and Jack.
Schlossberg spent her childhood primarily in Manhattan's Upper East Side and on Martha's Vineyard at her maternal grandmother Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's estate. In 1996, she served as a flower girl at her uncle John F. Kennedy Jr.'s wedding.
She attended Brearley School, a private girls’ school in Manhattan. In 2006, she enrolled at Harvard University, where she studied English literature and documentary filmmaking. During her time at Harvard, she worked as a research assistant at the Radcliffe Institute. She later obtained a Master of Professional Studies degree from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2013, focusing on video installation.
Career:
Schlossberg held various roles at Blowback Productions from 2010 to 2012, including associate editor, associate producer, and production associate. She also worked as a writer and researcher at Red Board Productions and gained experience working with television writer and producer David Milch. She developed television projects with Broadway Video, TruTV, and Warner Brothers Television.
In 2016, she created a web series titled End Times Girls Club, a comedy focusing on surviving an apocalyptic event. The series was inspired by her master's thesis installation at NYU and was produced by Above Average Productions. The concept evolved into multiple formats, including a TV pilot produced by Lorne Michaels in 2017, a physical installation called Slumber Party Bunker in Paris in 2023, and a TikTok channel.
In 2017, Schlossberg co-produced and co-wrote the documentary series Time: The Kalief Browder Story, which received a Peabody Award. In 2018, she was commissioned by Adrian Joffe, president of Dover Street Market, to produce promotional videos for the retailer's Los Angeles store. In 2020, she collaborated again with Dover Street Market and the nonprofit organization When We All Vote to produce videos encouraging voter turnout for the 2020 United States presidential election.
She has directed music videos for artists including Hyd, Dougie Poole, Swaai Boys, and Ducktails. In 2022, she wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Short Gay Tragedy #1, which premiered at the 45th Mill Valley Film Festival. The same year, she participated in the opening of the permanent exhibit honoring John F. Kennedy at the Kennedy Center, working alongside Yo-Yo Ma and Doug Emhoff.
Personal Life:
While she has been the subject of media attention, Schlossberg maintains a private public profile. She resides in Ojai, California, with her wife, Rory McAuliffe, whom she married in 2022.
