Samuel Ayer, who lived from 1777 to 1847, was the father of John Varnum Ayer, who lived from 1812 to 1877. John Varnum Ayer was the father of George Manney Ayer (1840–1914), who in turn was the father of Adele Augusta Ayer (1867–1938). Adele Augusta Ayer was the mother of Dorothy Ayer Gardner Ford, who was the mother of U.S. President Gerald Ford.
