Introduction
Yasuko Shimazu (August 8, 1908 – January 17, 1976) was a woman from a noble Japanese family. She was the wife of Duke Tadaakira Shimazu, and the daughter of Kako Miura, the eldest son of Sanjo Mibumi. Her mother was Chiyo, the eighth daughter of the Fukui Domain lord Matsudaira Yoshinaga.
Regarding her family background, her father was Duke Sanjo Kimi (the eldest son of Sanjo Mibumi), and her mother was Sanjo Chiyo (the eighth daughter of Matsudaira Yoshinaga of Fukui Domain). Her siblings included four individuals: Sanjo Sukenori (a duke), Senshoku Kimiko (wife of Senshoku Hiku), Nagai Tsubaki (wife of Nagai Naokuni), and Yasuko Shimazu herself.
In terms of marriage, she married Duke Tadaakira Shimazu. Their children include the eldest son, Tadahiro (born 1933). Tadahiro is the 4th head of the Tamazato Shimazu family, and his wife is Kitashirokawa Hyo-ko (the first princess daughter of Prince Kikusui Kaneyuki).
Her second son, Hisamasa (born 1937), is married to Noriko Homu (daughter of Baron Homu Toshiaki). Their eldest daughter, Junko (born 1938), is the wife of Takao Hatano. Their second daughter, Michiko (born 1940), is the wife of Yasuda Kanetoshi. Their third daughter, Keiko (born 1943), is the wife of Michihisa Kitashirakawa.
Additionally, Tadahiro’s wife Hyo-ko and Keiko’s husband Michihisa are both children of Prince Kikusui Kaneyuki, making their marriage a sibling marriage within the royal family.
