Martha Lindley Blaine Trump was born Martha Lindley Blaine Beard. She spent her childhood in South Carolina, Florida, and Alabama. Her father, Joseph Beard, held a senior executive position at IBM. When she was ten years old, her family moved to Yokohama, Japan, due to her father’s employment. During her time there, she attended the International School of the Sacred Heart. She later graduated from the American School of Paris, located in Louveciennes, France. Subsequently, she attended Bennett College in Millbrook, New York, and the University of Tokyo. She discontinued her studies there to marry Peter Retchin.
Career and Activities:
Blaine Trump serves as a trustee of the American Ballet Theatre. In 1998, she was honored with the Marietta Tree Award for public service by the New York City citizens' committee.
Personal Life:
Martha Blaine has been married twice and divorced twice. Her first marriage was to Peter Retchin in 1970. Together, they had one child, Christopher Hollister Retchin, born in 1978, who is a real estate executive. Martha and Peter Retchin eventually divorced.
Her second marriage was to Robert Trump in 1984. Robert Trump was involved in his family's real estate development business, the Trump Organization. The marriage lasted until 2009. During this period, Martha Trump faced personal challenges; in October 2004, she was hospitalized at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan following an overdose of pills after learning that her husband had purchased a $3.7 million house on Long Island for his secretary and mistress, Ann Marie Pallan, who had been his secretary for several years. The couple's divorce proceedings commenced in 2007, proceeded to court in 2008, and culminated in a confidential settlement in 2010.
Following their separation, in 2006, Martha and Robert Trump listed their 6,500-square-foot, three-unit, three-floor, unfinished co-op residence. In 2012, Martha Trump listed a mansion in Millbrook, New York, valued at $17.5 million, for sale.
In 2017, Martha Blaine Trump attended the inauguration ball of President Donald Trump alongside her partner, Steve Simon.
