Introduction
Prince Guojun Yongyu was born on July 20, 1752, and passed away on September 10, 1789, at the age of 38. He was the eldest son of Prince Gung of the First Rank Hongmian, and his mother was Lady Fan Jia. His father was known as Fan Hongbin. Yongyu belonged to the third generation of the Guo Qingwang (Prince Guo) line. He was born during the Qianlong period. In June 1765 (the 30th year of Qianlong), he succeeded his father as the third-generation member of the Prince Guo line. However, the prince title was not hereditary in perpetuity, so his rank was limited to a junwang (complexioned prince). He died in 1789 at the age of 38. His eldest son, Miancong, succeeded as the fourth-generation Prince Guo but was downgraded to a beile (a higher-ranking prince's title) upon inheritance.
In terms of family, Yongyu had several spouses and concubines. His formal or primary wife was Lady Dong Jia, whose father was Gongming Ying of Yongqin. His second wife, Lady Tian, was the daughter of Er Cun; she was originally a lesser wife but was later elevated to a side consort. Another side consort, Lady Fang, was the daughter of Baode. There was also a concubine, surnamed Yi, known by her leased name Ai Yu, commonly called the Old Concubine. She, along with women like Li, a servant woman working in the household, followed Western Christianity. In November of the 22nd year of the Jiaqing reign (1817), it was revealed that their residence contained Christian crosses and statues of Western gods.
