Introduction

Taincha (Manchu: ᡨ᠋ᠠᡳ᠌ᠨᠴᠠ, Transcription: tainca, ?—17th century), also known as Deyinze, surname unknown. She was a minor consort of Nurhaci, the founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty, and the stepmother of Hong Taiji.

Life

In the Spring of 1620 (the fifth year of Tianming), a servant girl named Qin Tai, who served in the palace, had a quarrel with a woman named Naza, accusing each other of immorality. Qin Tai claimed that Naza had committed adultery with Bakshida Hae, citing as evidence two blue cloths delivered to Hae. Nurhaci’s young consort Taincha overheard this incident and reported it to Nurhaci on March 25. Nurhaci summoned the parties for questioning and learned that the cloths sent to Hae were promised by a certain consort. Thus, he reproved the consort implicated by the evidence. Taincha then used this opportunity to expose the higher-ranking grand consort Abahai.

Subsequently, Taincha accused Grand Consort Abahai of having an ambiguous relationship with Daisan, the Great Beile (princess), and of suspected bribery and corruption, which was confirmed through investigation. As a result, Taincha was promoted to a minor consort (ajige fujin) and was permitted to dine at the same table as Nurhaci.

In August of 1626 (the 11th year of Tianming), Nurhaci died. The four Great Beile (Daisan, Aimin, Mangguertai, and Hong Taiji) governed according to Nurhaci’s last will. According to the "Manchu Veritable Record," Nurhaci instructed that Grand Consort Abahai be buried with him, along with two concubines. The record mentions the names of “two concubines” as Aji Gen and Dainza; however, due to unclear wording in the original Manchu text, there is controversy among scholars whether Dainza is the same as Taincha. Existing evidence shows that the Manchu texts differ, and it remains uncertain whether Taincha and Dainza are the same person.
