Mary Root

Mary Root, born on September 22, 1667, and deceased in 1721, was the mother of John Smith III, who was born on February 1, 1697, in Hadley, Massachusetts, and died in 1784 in Brattleboro. John Smith III was the father of Israel Smith, born on April 2, 1739, in Granby, Massachusetts, and died on June 7, 1811, in Bainbridge, New York. Israel Smith was the father of Chloe Smith, who was born on November 10, 1762, in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and died on February 17, 1847, in Brattleboro. Chloe Smith was the mother of Rutherford Hayes, Jr., and Rutherford Hayes, Jr. was the father of Rutherford B. Hayes, the U.S. president from 1877 to 1881.
