Introduction
Quan Hongchan, born on March 28, 2007, in Majang Village, Majang Town, Mazhang District, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. Her family is relatively modest; her parents are ordinary farmers who sustain the family mainly through a small orchard. Her mother has been in poor health due to a car accident, and the primary economic support comes from her father. Quan has an older brother who has already started working, and her younger brother and sister are also engaged in diving.
In July 2014, Quan Hongchan was discovered by her beginner coach, Chen Huaming, while playing hopscotch on the school playground, thus beginning her diving training. In September 2014, she officially enrolled at Zhanjiang Sports School. She also received joint training at Guangzhou Sports Vocational and Technical College and Zhanjiang, becoming an excellent athlete.
In March 2018, Quan was transferred to the Guangdong Diving Team, under the supervision of provincial coach He Weiyi. After that, her diving career gradually developed. She won three championships at the Guangdong Youth Diving Championships in 2018, and subsequently placed second in women's synchronized platform and third in individual platform at the 15th Guangdong Provincial Games.
In 2019, Quan won five championships at the Guangdong Youth Diving Championships. In 2020, she secured five titles— including three-meter springboard and ten-meter platform— and one runner-up at the Guangdong Youth Diving Championships. On October 4, 2020, she won the women's individual 10-meter platform at the National Diving Championship and Olympic and World Cup qualifying events, impressing with her performance and earning the favor of the national team.
In 2021, she participated in various domestic and international competitions, including the Chinese Diving Star Tournament and the National Diving Championships. On August 5, 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics, she won the gold medal in the women's individual 10-meter platform and broke the world record. Subsequently, she received the "Brilliant Future Award" at the 2021 Dingsheng Awards, and at the 2021 National Games, she represented Guangdong to win the gold medal in the women's individual 10-meter platform. In 2022, she secured the gold medal in women's synchronized 10-meter platform and a silver medal in the individual event at the Budapest World Championships.
In October 2022, she participated in the Diving World Cup in Berlin, Germany, winning the gold in women's synchronized 10-meter platform. In 2023, she continued to achieve excellent results at international competitions, including the Fukuoka World Championships, various World Cup events, and the National Diving Championships. In 2024, she won the gold medal in women's synchronized platform at the Paris Olympics, becoming China's youngest three-time gold medalist in Olympic history.
