Introduction
Emma Hong (1955 – March 2, 2020) was a Hong Kong actress who came from a family connected to the performing arts. She was the younger sister of Hong Jinmei, the fourth wife of famous Cantonese opera performer Sun Ma Sze Tsang. Because she was the eleventh child in her family and Sun Ma Sze Tsang’s sister-in-law, she was affectionately known as ‘Aunt Eleven.’ Her nieces and nephews include actors Tang Siu-chuen, Tang Siu-ngai, Tang Siu-wing, and Tang Bik-yuk.
Hong Guohua studied at the Chinese and English College in Kowloon City before joining the RTV (Rediffusion Television) artist training class, where she trained alongside actors such as Alex Man and Ma Man-yee. During the 1970s and 1980s, she appeared in several television dramas, including Big Sister and the Madman and Crocodile Tears, often portraying roles as women from troubled or complex backgrounds. She also hosted the late-night adult talk show Owl Time, gaining recognition for her bold and outspoken personality.
Her marriage to Henry Fok Ying-tung’s stepson, Huo Wenfang, drew media attention at the time. The couple had one son, Huo Ziming, and later led a relatively private life away from the spotlight.
In her later years, Hong Guohua retired from the entertainment industry and lived quietly. She passed away on March 2, 2020, at the age of 65. Her life reflected both the glamour of Hong Kong’s entertainment scene and the unique intersections between the performing arts and prominent family circles.
