Introduction
Shouchang'anximing Wang Zhu Mengzhe (1383–1440), the first ruler of Shouchang Wang in the Ming Dynasty, grandson of Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang, son of King Zhao of Chu Zhu Zhen, mother was Queen Consort Wang of Chu. Zhu Mengzhe was granted the title in the first year of the Jianwen reign, died in the fifth year of the Zhengtong era, at the age of 58. Nine years later, his younger half-brother Zhu Jijun succeeded him.
Family background: Zhu Mengzhe's grandfather was Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang; his father was King Zhao of Chu Zhu Zhen. His mother was Queen Consort Wang of Chu. Among his brothers, the eldest half-brother was Prince of Baling, Zhu Mengcong; the second elder half-brother was Prince of Yong'an, Zhu Mengjiong; his legitimate third elder brother was King of Chu, Zhu Mengyan. Other half-brothers included Zhu Mengwei of Chongyang, Zhu Mengyue of Tongshan, Zhu Mengcan of Tongcheng, Zhu Mengzhao of Jingling, Zhu Menggui of Yueyang, and Zhu Mengju of Jiangxia.
Regarding his spouse: Zhu Mengzhe's wife was Lady Mu, who passed away in the 19th year of the Yongle era (1421); he also had a concubine, Lady Leng, with whom he fathered Zhu Jijun. His children included his second son, Prince of Shouchang, Zhu Jijun; and his eldest daughter, Anren County Mistress, who was betrothed to Zhang Xin, son of Zhiwei Commander Zhang Ming of Huguang. During Zhu Mengzhe's lifetime, he had four surviving children.
