Asami Mizukawa

Asami Mizukawa, born January 13, 1982, is a Japanese actress active in television dramas, films, stage plays and voice acting. Her career began in 1997 when she took part in the film Kindaichi Case Files: The Legend of the Shanghai Mermaid, which was released in Japan that year. Since then, Mizukawa has gradually appeared in numerous screen productions, building extensive acting experience.

Her first starring TV role premiered in Japan on April 12, 2001, in the drama Wicked Woman 17. She went on to appear in many projects, including the film Spirits of the Cursed Water (released January 19, 2002) and the TV drama Ooku (which premiered June 3, 2003). In 2004 she starred in the drama Mother and Lover; the films Life Is Hard, So It’s Happy: Part Two and 69 were also released that year. Throughout 2004 she took part in several other productions, gradually shaping a diverse range of roles.

From 2005 onward, Mizukawa’s starring roles drew attention, including the 2006 drama Journey to the West, the 2006 film Memories of Tomorrow, and the 2007 drama Iryu: Team Medical Dragon 2. Her 2008 drama Last Friends and the film Chameleon received favorable reviews. In 2009 she starred in a number of TV dramas broadcast in Japan, such as Hissatsu Shigotonin 2009 and Ten-Sei Myoshu.

Her work that gained international notice includes the 2010 Nodame Cantabile: The Final Movement series and the film Higanjima. In 2011 she appeared in Gō: The Princesses’ Sengoku (Gō: Himetachi no Sengoku), and in the following years she continued to perform in many TV dramas and films—such as A Story About Raising a Dog and The Wonderful Travel of the Oki Family: Newlywed Hell—demonstrating an ever-expanding range.

She began dating actor Masataka Kubota in 2017, and the couple announced their marriage on September 21, 2019. Mizukawa’s body of work spans many genres across television, film, voice work and stage, and she has received several awards, including the Hochi Film Award and the Kinema Junpo Best Actress Award in 2020 and 2021, highlighting her professional achievements.
