Introduction

Naoyoshi Maeda (born August 24, 1847, or the 4th year of Kōka, according to the lunar calendar, October 3, 1847, in the Gregorian calendar – died February 13, 1856, or the 3rd year of Ansei, in the lunar calendar, March 19, 1856, in the Gregorian calendar) was the ninth head of the Maeda Tosasuke family, the preeminent head of the famous Kaga Eight Families during late Edo period. He was adopted by Maeda Naozura, the eighth head of the Maeda Tosasuke family. His biological father was Maeda Seitai, the 13th daimyo of Kaga Domain. His mother’s name is not recorded. His common name was Shizunōsuke. The traditional character notation is 直會.

He was born in 1847 (Kōka 4), August 24 (lunar calendar), and died in 1856 (Ansei 3), February 13 (lunar calendar). The age difference between his birth and death was just 8 years. He inherited the family headship at a very young age, becoming the head of the Maeda Tosasuke family at the age of 5. He was adopted at the age of only 1 year, becoming an adopted son of his biological father, Maeda Seitai.

In 1856, he passed away at the age of 10.
