Roland Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe

Roland Calvert Cubitt, 3rd Baron Ashcombe, was born on 26 January 1899. He was a member of the British aristocracy and inherited the title of Baron Ashcombe following the death of his father, Henry Cubitt, 2nd Baron Ashcombe, in 1947. His lineage includes being the maternal grandfather of Queen Camilla.

Cubitt received his education at Eton College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. His military service included holding the rank of Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards. In 1939, he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant, and in 1940, he served as Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Surrey.

On 16 November 1920, Cubitt married Sonia Rosemary Keppel at the Guards Chapel located at Wellington Barracks in London. Sonia was the daughter of the Hon. George Keppel and Alice Keppel. The marriage ended in divorce in 1947. Together, they had three children:

1. Rosalind Maud Cubitt (1921–1994): She married Major Bruce Middleton Hope Shand. Their children included Camilla Rosemary Shand, born on 17 July 1947 (later Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom); Sonia Annabel Shand (born 2 February 1949); and Mark Roland Shand (28 June 1951 – 23 April 2014).

2. Henry Edward Cubitt (1924–2013): He succeeded as the 4th Baron Ashcombe after his father's death. He married Ghislaine Alexander (née Dresselhuys), who was previously married to Denis Alexander, 6th Earl of Caledon, and later became The Baroness Foley; Virginia Carington, daughter of Peter Carington, 6th Baron Carrington; and Mary Elizabeth Dent-Brocklehurst (née Chipps), widow of Mark Dent-Brocklehurst.

3. Jeremy John Cubitt (1927–1958): He married Diana Edith Du Cane, and their child was Sarah Victoria Cubitt, born in 1953.

Cubitt married a second time on 6 August 1948 to Idina Joan Mills, who died in 1954. She was the daughter of Colonel Robert Edward Myddelton and Lady Violet Wellesley. She was previously married to Lieut. John Charles Trueman Mills.

His third marriage took place on 2 July 1959, to Jean Baylis, the daughter of Charles Tuller Garland (who died in 1973). Jean was previously married to Greville Pollard Baylis.

Roland Calvert Cubitt died on 28 October 1962. He was buried in the churchyard of St Barnabas's Church at Ranmore Common, Surrey.
