Introduction

Ma Yanling, date of birth unknown, died in 1984. His ancestral home is in Hunan Hengshan (now Baishi Pu Township, Xiangtan County, Hunan). He is the second uncle of Ma Ying-jeou, the Chairman of the Kuomintang in Taiwan; his father was Ma Li'an. Family members include Ma Heling, Ma Yanling, and Ma Yuanying.

The Ma family has lived in poverty for generations until Ma Li'an's era, when their fortunes gradually improved. In 1927, Ma Li'an died at only a few years old, and the family was mainly raised by their grandmother. During this period, the family suffered harassment from bandits and bullies. Their grandmother fled with her minor children to Xinhua Village, Sanzhang Township, Hengdong County, thus establishing the ancestry of Ma Ying-jeou. Six years later, Ma Yuanying grew into a graceful young woman and, through an introduction, married Liu Yuezhi, who was then the Director of the Hunan Provincial Finance Department; Liu was a trusted general of Chiang Kai-shek. Her husband was Liu Wanya. Ma Yuanying later bore a son, Liu Zhaoli, who is currently a member of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Ma Heling funded her education and entrepreneurship with support from the Liu family, allowing the family to move back to their old home in Xiangtan. In 1948, while serving as the director of the Political Department of the 204th Division of the Nationalist Army in Chongqing, Ma Heling foresaw that Chiang's army was weakening and decided to move to Hong Kong with his mother and younger brother Ma Yanling. During this migration, his sister Ma Yuanying remained in Xinhua Village, Sanzhang Township, Hengdong County, and did not move with the family.

After settling in Taiwan, Ma Yanling passed away in 1984. The available biographical information mainly covers family migration, familial relationships, and historical context, without details about his personal career or other specific deeds.
