Introduction

He Long, born in 1896, was originally from Sangzhi County, Sichuan Province. In 1928, he was assigned to organize armed forces in the border areas of Hunan and Hubei. Amidst the warlord conflicts and chaos of that time, he gradually rose through the ranks, becoming a brigadier general and the commander of the first division of the JianGuo Sichuan Army, as well as the commander of the first division of the National Revolutionary Army’s Ninth Army, serving in important positions such as the guardian of Fengzhou. His military career holds an important place in modern Chinese history, establishing him as one of the early key military leaders of the Chinese Communist Party.

Hu Qinxian’s birth date and place are unknown. She was a performer by profession, living through hardships for survival. Through introductions, she entered the service of the Lingzhou Guardian Office. Later, she became the partner of He Long, becoming his third wife. Under the alias Wang Lin, she followed He Long to live in Shanghai, enduring impoverished conditions. During her time in Shanghai, Wang Lin worked as a staff member at an agency. This agency was later sabotaged by Kuomintang agents, and Wang Lin and He Jinlian were subsequently arrested and imprisoned, enduring severe torture. He Jinlian died from illness in prison.

After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang cooperated to organize rescue operations, successfully saving Wang Lin and He Jinlian. Afterwards, she adopted a false name and fled to Shanghai to live in hiding. After the war, she returned to her hometown in Sangzhi, Sichuan, only to find that He Long’s family had already been purged by reactionary Kuomintang forces. Due to the circumstances, Wang Lin had no choice but to return to her hometown in Sichuan. Thereafter, she lost contact with He Long.

In her later years, Wang Lin settled in Chengdu, mainland China, where she remains to this day. Her life experiences encompass several significant historical periods, including warlord conflicts, the Anti-Japanese War, and domestic turmoil, reflecting her complex personal background and the changes of her times.
