Sammie Yu

Yu Simin, born on March 31, 1980, in Hong Kong, China. She graduated in 2003 from the Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Shue Yan College. In her early years, because her mother worked in the wedding-dress industry, Yu worked part-time as a child model.

Career-wise, Yu was one of the first anchors at Hong Kong Cable Television in 2003. She worked in entertainment news and as a program host, including hosting the show "Strange Tales." She also took part in modeling contests, finishing runner-up in the "Stylish Men & Attractive Women" competition and winning the BBC Image Girl contest. In 2004 she appeared in the films This Daddy Is Really Explosive and the comedy Sweetness, directed by Yee Nam-chun, in which she acted alongside Sen Mei, Deng Lixin, Heng Zhihao and others. In 2006, Yu received an honorary degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 2015 she published a book titled Summer Course Special, and in 2016 she attended the Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony.

In her personal life, Yu’s relationship with singer Zheng Zhongji drew attention. They met at public events, began dating in 2010, and were reported to have married that year. After marriage she resigned from her anchor position at Cable TV to focus on family life. In 2011 she and Zheng Zhongji formally registered their marriage in Hong Kong; on July 22 of the same year they held their wedding ceremony in Hong Kong. After marriage, Yu largely withdrew from the public eye to concentrate on family care. The couple has two children: a daughter, Emma, born July 12, 2011, and a son born by cesarean section on February 12, 2015. Zheng Zhongji has often been accompanied at his performances by Yu and their children.

Regarding divorce, on April 15, 2025 the two appeared at the Wan Chai Family Court, and the divorce-related proceedings attracted media attention. They subsequently appeared multiple times in court on June 17; Zheng’s side confirmed that divorce proceedings were underway but denied reports that he was paying only HK$8,000 per month in maintenance. Zheng’s father, Zheng Donghan, stated that the actual maintenance exceeds six figures per month and is used for the children’s living and education expenses.

Yu Simin’s immediate family mainly includes her husband Zheng Zhongji and their children. She also shares family life, fashion, and food content on her personal social media. She has worked in film, hosting, and publishing, and has won awards such as the BBC Image Girl championship and runner-up in the "Stylish Men & Attractive Women" competition.
