Introduction

Tadahiro Shimazu (born September 18, 1972) is a Japanese businessman and the 33rd head of the Shimazu family. He serves as the President and Representative Director of Shimadzu Kogyo Co., Ltd., as well as the President and Representative Director of Shimadzu Retail Service Co., Ltd. Additionally, he works as a curator at the Shōko Shūseikan Museum. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Kagoshima Economic Partners Association, the Branch Head of the Kagoshima Chapter of the Tokaekyō Foundation (the Urasenke tea ceremony organization), the chief priest of Tsurumine Shrine, and an advisor to the Coal Mine Memory Promotion Project.

Regarding his birth and family background, he was born in Kagoshima City as the eldest son of Osamu Shimazu, the 32nd head of the Shimazu family. His mother is Itsuko, the eldest daughter of Takikichi Saigo.

In terms of education, he graduated from Kagoshima Prefectural Tsurumaru High School (Class 41) in March 1991, and then from Keio University Faculty of Economics in March 1996.

His career began in April 1996 when he joined the Bank of Japan. Following corporate reorganization, he transferred to Mizuho Corporate Bank, then in 2004 he joined Shimadzu Kogyo Co., Ltd. From February 2004 to March 2008, he resided in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, for research on the Shimadzu farm (Shimadzu Family Furano Farm) in Kamifurano Town, Hokkaido.

Academically, he studied urban planning at Sapporo Gakuin University Graduate School of Regional and Community Management starting in April 2005, and completed his studies there. He also enrolled at Otaru University of Commerce Business School in April 2007 to study management but withdrew in March 2008 to participate in a new project related to the renovation of the Shōko Shūseikan Museum, returning to Kagoshima. In the same year, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Shimadzu Kogyo.

Subsequently, he became Deputy President of Shimadzu Kogyo in June 2009, and in July of the same year, he was appointed President of Shimadzu Retail Service Co., Ltd. He was promoted to President of Shimadzu Kogyo in June 2015.

Following the death of his father Osamu on December 31, 2024, he became the 33rd head of the Shimazu family.

In his personal life, he is married and has one son and two daughters.
