Introduction
Joseph Benjamin Dimmick was born on October 3, 1858, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Samuel E. Dimmick, who served as Pennsylvania’s Attorney General.
Dimmick was elected as the Mayor of Scranton, Pennsylvania, serving from 1906 to 1909. His mayoralty coincided with a cholera epidemic, during which he held office. His election was partly motivated by a desire to improve the city's sewerage infrastructure.
He was the thirteenth mayor of Scranton. In the 1914 elections, Dimmick was defeated when Boies Penrose was re-elected as Pennsylvania's Republican senator. Following this political setback, Dimmick focused on local politics and public speaking activities.
Joseph B. Dimmick died on January 14, 1920, in Stratford, Ontario. He was survived by his wife and two daughters.
His sister-in-law, Mary Dimmick Harrison, became notable through her marriage to Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States.
