Introduction
Masayasu Ikeda (born December 10, 1865, which corresponds to M cember 7, 1865, in the lunar calendar - February 10, 1939) was a Japanese feudal lord and a noble with the title of Viscount. He was the 10th and last daimyo of Bitchū Kamo province.
Life
Origin and Family Background
Masayasu Ikeda was born as the second son of the 9th daimyo of Bitchū Kamo domain, Ikeda Akimasa (also known as Masayoshi). His childhood name was Manjirō. His father, Akimasa, served as the 10th daimyo of Okayama Domain. Masayasu's first wife was the daughter of Ikeda Yoshimasa, and his second wife was the daughter of Toda Ujiie. He had a brother, whom he adopted as his heir—Ikeda Masatoshi (the second son of Masayoshi).
Ascension to Daimyo and Official Titles
On March 15, 1868 (the 4th year of the Keiō era), following his father Akimasa's succession to the position of daimyo of Okayama Domain, Masayasu, who was still a child at the time, inherited the position of daimyo of Kamo domain. He was only 3 years old. During the tumult of the Meiji Restoration, in 1869 (Meiji 2), he became the domain governor of Kamo domain due to the abolition of their feudal domain system and the reorganization of domains into prefectures (han to ken). With the implementation of the abolition of the han system in 1871 (Meiji 4), Kamo domain was abolished, and he moved to Tokyo in September of the same year.
His Status and Title Afterwards
In July 1884 (Meiji 17), based on the Peers' Family Law, he was granted the hereditary title of Viscount (Shishaku).
Death
He died on February 10, 1939, at the age of 74. His posthumous name was Kōun-in.
Honors
On December 8, 1873 (Meiji 6), he received a ceremonial award of a sake cup.
