Introduction
Xiang Yuangu, formerly named Xiang Zhide and also known by the alias Wang Xiangshi, was a member of the Tujia ethnicity. She was born in 1901 in XiajiaYu Village, Liangshuikou Township, Sangzhi County, Hunan Province. Her family background had certain connections to He Long. In 1920, He Long's father was killed in a bandit attack, and his young brother also lost his life in the incident. According to traditional customs in Sangzhi area, during the period of mourning, the family was obliged to remarry He Long to someone within the clan to ensure descendants; this custom was known as “mourning marriage.” Against this backdrop, He Long and Xiang Yuangu became spouses.
After participating in the Nanchang Uprising, He Long moved his family to Shanghai. Details about Xiang Yuangu’s specific life during her time in Shanghai are not extensively documented, but she later returned to her hometown. In 1948, Xiang Yuangu went to Baiyangwan Xian Gu Temple to become a nun, expressing her religious beliefs.
She died on February 11, 1949, at the age of 48. There is limited information available about her family life, personal experiences, and other details. She is primarily known for her identity as He Long’s second wife.
