Introduction
John Shorter, who lived from 1660 to 1707, was a London merchant and the son of John Shorter, who lived from 1625 to 1688 and served as Lord Mayor of London. Catherine, Lady Walpole, was the daughter of John Shorter and was the first wife of Sir Robert Walpole, the British statesman and art collector who held the title of 1st Earl of Orford.
