Introduction

Zhen Zijing, born in 1966, began her performing career in Hong Kong, appearing in several films including "见习黑玫瑰" (The Apprentice Black Rose) and "冒险王尊尼" (Adventure King Johnny). Her work in Hong Kong brought her early public attention. She later accepted a role in the Donnie Yen–directed film "见习黑玫瑰," playing a schoolgirl skilled in tai chi, which showcased her martial arts ability.

Zhen earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston University, majoring in psychology and marketing management. While studying, she worked behind the scenes on films with her older brother. Her career turning point came when she was invited to appear on NBC’s morning program The Today Show as a Chinese martial-arts actress; this appearance drew the attention of the U.S. film and television industry.

She chose to return to the United States from Asia to continue developing her screen career. Zhen has appeared in multiple film and TV projects, including Adventures of Johnny Tao and Give ’em Hell, Malone. Beyond performing, she has worked as a martial-arts choreographer and consultant, providing fight choreography for Jay Chou’s music video "双刀" (Double Blades).

In martial arts competition, Zhen has strong credentials: she won a silver medal at the inaugural International Taijiquan Invitational in 1984, and at the 1985 International Wushu Invitational held in Xi’an, she placed third in the women’s all-around and took bronze in changquan (long fist). These awards demonstrate her professional level in martial arts.

Zhen’s career spans acting, fight choreography, and behind-the-scenes film work. She has pointed out the limited opportunities for Chinese performers in Hollywood and urged Chinese actors to create their own opportunities. She remains actively involved in film projects and martial-arts activities, continuing to promote Chinese martial-arts culture.
