Introduction

The Honourable Gerald William Lascelles was born on 26 October 1849 at Goldsborough Hall in Yorkshire. He was the third son of the 4th Earl of Harewood and Lady Elizabeth Joanna de Burgh, daughter of the 1st Marquess of Clanricarde. Lascelles attended the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

His career included serving as Deputy Surveyor of the New Forest from 1880 to 1914. He was awarded the title of Companion of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) in the 1914 Birthday Honours. Lascelles authored several publications, notably including "Thirty Five Years in the New Forest," which is considered an important work on the area. Other works by him include "Sport in the New Forest," contributions to the "Hampshire" volumes of the Victoria County History titled "Forestry and the New Forest," and "The Art of Falconry." His publications mainly covered topics related to sporting activities and natural history.

On 9 February 1875, Gerald William Lascelles married Constance Augusta Mary FitzClarence Phillipson, the daughter of John Burton Phillipson. The marriage produced four children:

1. Gerald Hubert Lascelles (23 April 1876 – 13 July 1928)

2. Cynthia Rachael Lascelles (29 August 1885 – 6 September 1961), who married George Wentworth Warwick Bampfylde, 4th Baron Poltimore.

3. John Beilby Lascelles (19 February 1884 – 13 November 1907)

4. Richard Lascelles (born and died 30 November 1887)

Gerald William Lascelles passed away on 11 February 1928.
