Introduction
Charlotte Shorter, who died in 1733, was the daughter of John Shorter, a London merchant who lived from 1660 to 1707. She was also the mother of Catherine, Lady Walpole, who was the wife of Sir Robert Walpole, the British statesman and art collector known as the 1st Earl of Orford.
