Introduction

Niu Niu, Manchu: ᠨᡳᠣᠨᡳᠣ, Milind transcription: Nionio, from December 13, 1651, to March 9, 1652, was the eldest son of Emperor Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty. His birth date corresponds to the first day of the eleventh month in the eighth year of Shunzhi (1651). The exact place of birth is not clearly recorded in available historical materials. His mother was a concubine of lower rank, Lady Ba. The meaning of Niu Niu's Manchu name is "eyeball" or "precious child." He was an early-deceased prince in Emperor Shunzhi's lineage, with no subsequent official title or posthumous name conferred. He died on the 30th day of the first month of the ninth year of Shunzhi (1652), at about three months old. No posthumous title was granted, nor was he posthumously elevated. Records of his life are primarily based on royal archives and family genealogies. Existing documents do not contain clear information about his education, upbringing, or court affairs, so further educational or professional details cannot be provided. This child holds significance in royal lineage and genealogical records, and is noted in Qing imperial documents as part of Emperor Shunzhi’s early-deceased offspring. The main reference is the “Four Genealogies of the Qing Imperial Family.”
