Introduction

Robert Jeremy Hugh Lascelles, born on 14 February 1955, is a British music industry executive and musician. He is a second cousin to King Charles III.

Lascelles is the third child of George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood, and Marion Stein. His mother later married Jeremy Thorpe. He is a great-grandson of King George V. He was educated at Westminster School in London.

In his career, Lascelles served as the CEO of Chrysalis Music plc. His involvement in the music industry began in the early 1970s, including performing percussion for the band Global Village Trucking Company, which featured his older brother James Lascelles on keyboards. During the 1970s, he worked as a tour manager for bands such as Curved Air.

In 1979, Lascelles joined Virgin Records, where he advanced to the position of Head of A&R under Richard Branson. During his thirteen-year tenure at Virgin, he collaborated with artists including Phil Collins, Culture Club, the Human League, and Simple Minds. He established his independent record label, Offside Records, named after his favorite cricket shot.

In 1994, Lascelles was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Chrysalis Music by Chris Wright. He resigned from this role in March 2012. Subsequently, he was appointed as a visiting professor at Leeds College of Music, starting in October 2012.

As CEO of Chrysalis, Lascelles was involved in signing or overseeing signings of multiple notable acts, such as Portishead, David Gray, OutKast, Ray LaMontagne, Feeder, Cee-Lo Green, Laura Marling, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and Rumer. He served on the council of the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) from 2003 and was Vice-Chairman of the Association of Independent Music (AIM) from 2004 to 2007. In 2010, he was shortlisted for the Orange Business Leader of the Year award.

In 2014, Lascelles founded Blue Raincoat Music, which he currently heads. In 2016, Blue Raincoat Music acquired full ownership of Chrysalis Records, including its roster of artists such as The Specials, Sinéad O'Connor, The Waterboys, Ten Years After, Fun Boy Three, Ultravox, Generation X, and 2 Tone Records.
