Introduction

Yuan Rong was born in Shouzhou (present-day Shouxian County, Anhui Province) and was a political figure of the Ming Dynasty. In his early years, he served as a ceremonial attendant under Prince Zhu Di of Yan. Later, he married Zhu Di's eldest daughter, Princess Yong'an Zhu Yuying, and was promoted for his outstanding performance in military campaigns. After Zhu Di ascended the throne, Zhu Yuying was titled Princess Yong'an, and Yuan Rong was promoted to imperial son-in-law. Due to his remarkable military achievements, he was bestowed the title of Marquis of Guangping. In one incident, when a mounted troop from the Dian Tai command passed in front of Yuan Rong's residence, Yuan Rong did not dismount and beat the troop, nearly causing his death. Upon learning this, Zhu Di wrote a letter to Prince Zhao Zhu Gaoxu, pointing out that since the Hongwu era, the gates of the imperial son-in-law’s residence had not enforced dismounting, and mentioning that King Jin, Dun, had been killed for arrogance, instructing Yuan Rong to restrain his behavior. Yuan Rong died during the Xuande period, was posthumously awarded the title of Duke of Yiguo, with the posthumous name Zhongmu.
