Introduction

Princess Shouchun, a princess of the Ming Dynasty, was born between the 1370s and before 1373, and died on August 1, 1388. She was the ninth daughter of Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang. On the third day of the third month of the 19th year of Hongwu (1386), the princess married Fu Zhong, the son of the Marquis of Yingguo, Fu Youde. At that time, unennobled princesses were granted silk and cloth each year; after ennoblement, they were assigned farmland, with an annual tribute of fifteen hundred shi of grain and two thousand strings of cash. Princess Shouchun was deeply loved by Ming Taizu and was granted over 120 qing of good land in Wu County, with an annual income of about eight thousand shi, far surpassing that of other princesses. She gave birth to a son named Fu Yan. The princess died on June 29, 1388, during the 21st year of Hongwu. In 1394, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the execution of Fu Youde’s family, leaving only Fu Yan alive.
