Cai Jiaying

Cai Zhiming, a Hong Kong businessman known for his toy industry, was nicknamed by the media as the “Toy King.” He and his wife have four children: Cai Jiamin, Cai Jiaying, Cai Jiayi, and their eldest son Cai Jiazan. The second daughter, Cai Jiaying, is comparatively low-key in both family life and public appearances, and rarely attends public events with the family.

Jiaying went to the United States for studies in her early years, enrolling at New York University, where she performed exceptionally and once ranked second on the national college student achievement list. She held herself to very high standards, and both her academic performance and appearance drew her parents’ attention. Two years ago, the family noticed mood swings; a doctor diagnosed her with depression, requiring long-term medication. She is introverted and stubborn, rarely revealing her thoughts to her family, and at times refused medication, with her condition fluctuating.

The incident occurred on a day in Hong Kong time around noon. Jiaying’s younger brother found her unconscious in a bedroom of a luxury residence on Kau To Hill, Sha Tin. On the ground were two foil trays filled with charcoal ash. Police and paramedics arrived and found that she had already been dead for some time. The police recovered a videotape at the scene, indicating she had committed suicide due to depression. After being informed, Cai Zhiming and his wife went to the scene to complete the related aftercare procedures.
