During his childhood, his parents divorced, and he was raised by his mother, Mari Hoshikawa. His paternal grandfather, Takeshi Ishida, cared deeply for him and gave him love, acting as a paternal figure until his grandfather’s death in 1989. As a boy, he experienced a hippie-like commune lifestyle, frequently moving around places such as Yakushima and Yatsugatake.

Later, he was scouted when coincidentally present at a concert by his father, Junichi Ishida, and made his acting debut in the Fuji TV drama "Sad Weather" (1992).

He notably starred for the first time in the 1995 drama "Minor."
