Ittsei Ishida (born December 7, 1974) is a Japanese actor and singer. His birth name is Hoshikawa Issei, and his former family name is Ishida. In 2024, he established his own management office called "Purmistera."

Early Life

He is from Tokyo. His biological father is actor Junichi Ishida. Junichi Ishida married Mari Hoshikawa during his student years at Waseda University’s Business School, and Ishida was born from that marriage. Ishida was born in Tokyo on December 7, 1974. During his childhood, his parents divorced, and he was raised by his mother, Mari Hoshikawa. His paternal grandfather, Takeshi Ishida, cared deeply for him and gave him love, acting as a paternal figure until his grandfather’s death in 1989. As a boy, he experienced a hippie-like commune lifestyle, frequently moving around places such as Yakushima and Yatsugatake.

Studying Abroad and Family Circumstances

At age 15, he went to Australia and attended a free school called Corowa School. Living abroad helped him develop his English skills. He returned to Japan in spring of the following year. The year before, he reconnected with his father, Junichi Ishida, after 13 years.

Start of Entertainment Career

In May 1991, he was reported in weekly magazines as the illegitimate son of Junichi Ishida, an actor known for the "trendy drama" boom. According to the article, Junichi Ishida had not publicly acknowledged his first marriage and child. Ishida worked part-time at Rozina Tea Room near Kokuritsu Station. Later, he was scouted when coincidentally present at a concert by his father, Junichi Ishida, and made his acting debut in the Fuji TV drama "Sad Weather" (1992).

Agency Affiliation and Stage Name

After his TV debut, he joined the personal agency "Chicken Boy," operated by Junichi Ishida. His stage name, "Ishida Issei," was chosen by his father based on a name fortune-telling. Following his debut, he gained popularity by appearing in several Fuji TV serial dramas such as "After School" (1992) and "Under One Roof" (1993). He notably starred for the first time in the 1995 drama "Minor."

Acting and Fashion

In the 1990s, influenced by David Bowie, he adopted and popularized a androgynous fashion style, earning the nickname "Femin Man" among young people. He frequently appeared in works by screenwriter Shinji Nojima and received high praise for his acting.

Music and Band Activities

He started engaging in music during elementary school and formed a band called "THE BIG BAND!!" with DJ Dragon and Shinji Takeda, where he played keyboard and sang. This band released a maxi single under Warner Music in 1996.

His father is actor Junichi Ishida. His mother is Mari Hoshikawa, and the couple divorced during his childhood. He reunited with his father during his youth.
