Introduction
Dong Liangyu, born in 1957, graduated from Harbin Military Industry Radar Specialty. His father was Dong Biyu, an important leader of the Communist Party of China who also served as vice chairman of the Dong Biyu Thought Research Society. His mother was He Lianzhi. Dong Liangyu's wife is Li Lili, also a graduate of Harbin Military Industry, and she is the daughter of former Heilongjiang Province governor Li Fanwu, who led the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War and was a veteran with revolutionary experience.
After graduating from Harbin Military Industry in 1964, Dong Liangyu was assigned to work at a research institute of the Seventh Machine Department. Later, he served in the Beijing Air Force Command Staff Department until his retirement as a colonel. His early career mainly took place in regions far from Beijing, while during his time working in Beijing, he was primarily responsible for military-related staff duties. Although his military rank was relatively lower compared to his peers of the same era, he adhered to the principle of “doing whatever work is assigned as long as the job is well done.”
Dong Liangyu met Li Lili in 1964. At that time, Li Lili had been born in Yan'an because her father was involved in revolutionary activities. She received revolutionary education from a young age. The two first met during a trip to Jingpo Lake in 1972, and their relationship gradually developed into a romantic one. They married in 1972, but their married life was not smooth; they later each remarried and had a pair of children. In 1990, after their divorce, they reunited, and their relationship was subsequently restored.
Regarding family life, Dong Liangyu grew up in a boarding school environment and could only return home during holidays to see his father. His father, Dong Biyu, was strict with him, never indulging him, and emphasized the cultivation of good character and professional skills. During his studies, his father wrote him numerous letters of earnest advice, stressing the importance of mastering a skill to serve the country and the people. Throughout his life, family relations and professional experiences were important parts of his personal journey.
On January 13, 2023, Dong Liangyu passed away at the age of 85 after succumbing to illness despite multiple attempts at rescue.
