Emma Soames, born on 9 September 1949, is a British editor with a career spanning several prominent publications. She is a granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill, the former British Prime Minister.
Her family background includes her father, Lord Christopher Soames, who was the son of Harold Soames. Harold Soames's sister was Olave Baden-Powell, known as the World Chief Guide. Emma Soames's mother was Mary Churchill, the daughter of Sir Winston Churchill. She has a brother, Lord Nicholas Soames, who served as the Conservative Minister of Defence under Prime Minister Sir John Major.
Emma Soames was educated at multiple independent schools in South East England. She attended Laverock School in Oxted, Surrey, followed by Hamilton House School in Kent. Subsequently, she studied at Queen's College in Harley Street, Central London, from 1965 to 1966. Furthering her education abroad, she studied in Paris at the Sorbonne and Sciences Po.
Her professional career includes roles as editor for several notable publications. She served as editor of the Literary Review, Tatler, and ES Magazine. Additionally, she was a long-serving editor of the Telegraph magazine and later edited Saga Magazine.
