Zou Jingmeng was born on February 17, 1929, in Shanghai. His father, Zou Taofen, was a renowned journalist and political commentator, and his mother, Shen Cuizhen, served as Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation. In 1944, he became involved in revolutionary work and joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1948. He held positions at organizations such as the Yan'an Meteorological Observatory and the North China Telecommunications Engineering School. Between 1956 and 1961, he studied at Harbin Military Engineering Institute, and later pursued graduate studies at Peking University. In 1973, he was transferred to the Central Meteorological Administration. From 1982 to 1996, he served as Director-General of the National Meteorological Administration, promoting the modernization of China's meteorological services, leading projects on weather satellites and radar, and enhancing disaster weather monitoring capabilities. During this period, he actively participated in international meteorological cooperation and served as President of the World Meteorological Organization. He was assassinated on February 22, 1999, at the age of 70. Zou Jingmeng made significant contributions to the development of China's meteorological industry and international exchanges, and is regarded as an outstanding meteorological leader and an advocate of international meteorological cooperation.
