Minnie Faye Gash was born on September 24, 1922, in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, United States, to Henry Harrison Gash and Mrs. Gash (née Gant). She was the younger sister of Virginia Adele Gash.
In December 1940, Minnie married William Jefferson Blythe Jr., the man who had previously been married to her elder sister, Virginia. This unusual marriage, however, was very short-lived. Only four months later, in April 1941, the marriage was annulled. The union produced no children.
Just days after the annulment, on May 3, 1941, Blythe married again, this time to Wanetta Ellen Alexander of Kansas City, Missouri. Wanetta gave birth to Blythe’s daughter, Sharon Lee Blythe Pettijohn, only eight days later on May 11, 1941. Sharon would go on to live until 2022.
Minnie Faye Gash lived a long life, far removed from the public spotlight, and passed away on January 4, 2002, in Fontana, San Bernardino County, California, at the age of 79. Her story is remembered mainly in connection with her brief marriage to Blythe, linking her to a family history that would later become intertwined with that of U.S. President Bill Clinton.
