Introduction
Mianyi (綿懿; 1771–1809) was a member of the Qing dynasty imperial family, serving as the second son of Yongxing and the second holder of the Prince Xun (循) peerage.
**Early Life and Family Background**
Mianyi was born on October 27, 1771, in the Manor of Yongxing, which was associated with the princely rank of Prince Chengzhe of the First Rank. His mother was Lady Fuca, who held the status of a primary consort within the imperial court. In 1776, he was adopted into the Prince Xun peerage as the son of Yongzhang, aligning him with the Xun hereditary title.
**Marriage and Court Activities**
In 1785, Mianyi traveled on the Eastern Tour to Shandong. That year, in December, he entered into marriage with Lady Fuca, his first princess consort. The marriage ceremony took place at the imperial villa. The wedding banquet was prepared with a significant expenditure, including 26 sheep, 30 tables, 30 banquet chairs, and 40 vases of simmered rice vine, with the bride’s family bearing the costs. The bride’s parents were prohibited from hosting a banquet, which was in contrast to practices involving other imperial princes with consorts and officials. The total expense for the marriage and the preparation of the prince's residence amounted to approximately 50,000 taels of silver, considered substantial for the period.
**Title and Official Career**
Mianyi inherited the peerage as a beile in 1787. His career was marked by a temporary demotion in 1804 to the rank of second class zhenguo jiangjun due to a serious offense. The following year, he was elevated to beizi, a higher princely rank. He held the title until his death, and posthumously was honored as the Prince of the Third Rank.
**Death and Succession**
Mianyi died on February 26, 1809. His eldest son, Yixu, succeeded him as the Prince Xun peerage.
**Family and Marriages**
Mianyi's primary consort was Lady Fuca, daughter of Shangong Mingxing, whom he married in 1785. In 1798, he remarried Lady Tunggiya, daughter of the third-rank military officer Yigui.
His marriage alliance produced several offspring:
- Yixu (1791–1809), his eldest son and successor, holding the title of Prince of the Fourth Rank.
- Yijing (1791–1853), his second son.
- Yiji (1797–1863), his third son.
Mianyi also had additional secondary consorts and mistresses, including a mistress from the Wu clan and another from the Ulatehake clan.
